Hoi An to Nha Trang

13th July 2009

We had a really early start today getting the bus to Danang and then a flight to the coast at Nha Trang. Its time for a few days on the beach and according to Bien its one of the best 27 beaches in the world! We arrived by lunch time and checked into our hotel.

First impressions are a bit grim! Our hotel is very much from the 70s and looking around the town is very reminiscent of Blackpool, Skeggy or Torremolinos! A bit of a dump really! The beach however is lovely and sandy and relatively clean – hey just like the places I’ve just named!

Yesterday, having made all our purchases in Hoi An, we had bartered in the market for a couple of wheely bags as we are all really struggling with our back packs. The problem is that we had ended up bringing lots of items on tour with us that we don’t need until Australia and hadn’t thought about this when we dispatched the van – silly us! We seem to be carrying loads of books and haven’t worn our walking boots much either. We set off today to the Post Office to see if we could send these on to Oz ahead of us but it looks an expensive option – oh well it was a good thought!! Have to say, our back packs were considerably lighter yesterday so it was definitely a good idea.

This evening our opinions changed a little. We decided to visit the ‘Louisiana’ a micro-brewery set up by an Australian. The boys started off with a taster tray. This meant walking down to the other end of the beach and that area is much nicer and much more modern. We had just sat down when the thunder and lightening startered just above our heads and rain was gushing out of the sky – it was incredible! Thank goodness we hadn’t delayed leaving the hotel! The full beach emptied within seconds as the rain thundered heavily down. It was a really lovely tropical storm to watch…..
